Soft Washing Details

WHAT IS SOFT WASHING?

Soft washing is simply a cheaper, faster, safer way to clean and sanitize exterior surfaces such as your home. This method uses a low pressure washing technique performed by trained technicians using special equipment, along with a mixture professional grade soaps and surfactants. It cleans and kills mold, mildew, algae, moss, and lichen that grow on your property. This method also effectively gets rid of spider webs and other organisms. Your roof, siding, concrete and other surfaces are exposed every day to the weather, dirt, grime, water and moisture. The environmentally-friendly cleaners ensure that all bacterial contaminants are killed, which restores surfaces to their original condition and greatly improves curb appeal. If not maintained, these living organisms can deteriorate the exterior of your property and simply lower its value. Soft washing is the method recommended by most major insurers as well as the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturing Association (ARMA), so it won’t void your warranty!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOFT WASHING AND PRESSURE WASHING?

Although soft washing and pressure washing seem similar, they use different techniques, equipment, pressure and chemicals. With soft washing, custom blended cleaning solutions are applied to the surface, followed by a low pressure rinse. The pressure is about the same as what would be seen coming from a garden hose. It is the cleaning solution that does all the work. Whereas, with the use of a pressure washer, it is the pressure of the water stream that is trying to do the cleaning but is usually damaging the surface at the same time. While pressure washing may remove the mold, mildew, and other organic growths, it’s not going to kill it and will return much sooner than if you chose to soft wash. This is because the pressure of the water merely blasts the surface level of the fungus away. Conversely, soft washing actually kills it down to the roots. By killing the growth, your exterior surfaces remain clean for four to six times longer than a power wash. There are many circumstances where pressure washing is mandatory, but it’s very important to understand the damage you can create if not used properly.
